Tonight marked the end of one of, if not the, greatest careers in professional wrestling sports entertainment history. Ric Flair, the 16-time world champ, lost his retirement match to Shawn Michaels in what was almost certainly the match of the night at Wrestlemania 24 last night. The ending of tonight’s Raw was very cool, as every superstar on the current roster, as well as former Flair allies and foes Greg Valentine, Tully Blanchard, JJ Dillon, Arn Anderson, Ricky Steamboat, and Dean Malenko came to congratulate Flair.
While Flair is almost certainly my favorite pro wrestler of all-time (at least in the top 4), it was time. He turned 59 on February 25, and was starting to hurt his legacy. It’s good to see him go out on top with a classic match with a great performer like Shawn Michaels.
